Report of The 2nd KWU Kyokushin World Championships

Date: October 3-4, 2015
Khabarovsk, Russia

70 kg thropies

Kyokushin-kan Afghanistan team representing Afghanistan Kyokushin Karate in the 2nd KWU Kyokushin World Championships on October 3-4, 2015 in Khabarovsk, Russia made a history by winning a world championship medal in the category of 70 Kg. Afghanistan team consisted of three fighters, one judge, one coach, and the country representative as following;

Maqboul Shah Gardiwal, fighter under 65 Kg
Hojatullah Samhezada, fighter under 70 Kg
Faramarz Afghan, fighter under 85 Kg

Shihan Mohammad Seyar Azadani, 5th Dan, Judge/Country Representative
Sensei Mohammad Qahar Azadani, 4th Dan, Senior Coach/Branch Chief
Sensei Nour Aqha Hashimi, 3rd Dan, Coach

Hojatullah Samehzada, Afghanistan fighter in the category of 70 Kg, placed third in this world championship. He was very strong and won three opponents until he reached in the semi final to fight against Bulgaria fighter.

Ivan Kamanov from Bulgaria was the first opponent of Hojatullah Semehzada. Ivan Kamanov is the bronze medalist of the 1st KWU World Championships in Sofia and bronze medalists of 2015 Kyokushin-kan European Championships. The prediction of Karate World was that Ivan Kamanov would be the finalist of this weight category in Khabarovsk but it was proved wrong; Hojatullah Semehzada could win against Ivan Kamanov to be among the best 16 fighters for his next fight.

The next fight of Hojatullah Samehzada was with Nurbayev Bereket from Kazakhstan. This was the 2nd time Bereket fought against Semehzada. The first time was in the final fight of 2014 Eurasian Kyokushin-kan Championships where Hojat Semezada lost against Nurbayev Bereket. This time it was a revenge for Hojatullah Semehzada; and Kazakhstan fighter, Mr. Bereket lost his fight to Mr. Semehzada. Winning this fight, Semehzada got into the best 8 fighters of 70 Kg weight category to fight against Dawid Ozga from Great Britain. Dawid Ozga is the international champion and medalist of many championships from IFK organization. Hojatullah Semehzada could win against Dawid Ozga after fighting three rounds. This was one of the most exciting fights of this weight division, and both fighters were tough and strong. After wining Dawid Ozga, Hojatullah Semehzda could get the ticket to fight in the semi final against Bulgarian fighter, Georgi Lotarov.

The semi final fight of Hojat Semehzada and Georgi Lotarov was judged with so many judging mistakes. After the 2nd round, the judges decided to vote in favor of Georgi Lotarov. The decision was so wrong and unfair that Kancho Royama, the chairman of Kyokushin-kan International, expressed his opinion that if he was the judge of the tournament he would not let this happen.

Losing in the semi final fight, Hojatullah Semehzada placed third in this world championships in the men category of 70 Kg. This achievement is by far the highest achievement ever made in the history of Kyokushin Karate in Afghanistan. This was the first time ever that Afghanistan had a world championship medal winner. Congratulations to all Afghans.

Maqboul Shah Gardiwal also represented Kyokushin-kan Afghanistan in the category of 65 Kg. He performed very strong and won against two fighters. His first opponent was Jonas Eimontas, Lithuania, and his second opponent was Stefan Lotarov from shinkyokushinkai Bulgaria. Maqboul Shah Gardiwal won against these two fighters with very strong performance so he could fight with Russia representative Mansurov Marsel whom later became the World Champion of this weight category. Maqboul Shah Gardiwal fought very strong against Russia representative for two rounds. The final decision was made in the 2nd round in favor of Mansurov Marsel. Maqboul Shah Gardiwal is now among the best 8 fighters of KWU ranking fighters in the category of 65 Kg in this weigh category.

The last fighter of Afghanistan was Faramarz Afghan. He is a very talented and young fighter of Kyokushin-kan Afghanistan in the category of under 85 Kg.

Faramarz Afghan won his first fight against Danial Barbero Ramos from Spain. His second opponent was Kutakowski Marcin from Poland. Mr. Faramarz Afghan performed strong and could get into best 8 to fight against Iranian fighter, Shahyari Farshad. Mr. Faramarz Afghan lost his fight against Iranian fighter due to his chest injury.

Overall, Kyokushin-kan Afghanistan performance in this prestigious and biggest world tournament was so strong and proved to the world that Afghanistan has very strong and tough fighters in the world of Kyokushin, and is among the top countries in the world.

This achievement of Afghanistan could not be accomplished without the leadership of Kyokushin-kan Afghanistan, and many months of hard work and training. To be mentioned that these students trained hard under supervision of Shihan Mohammad Seyar Azadani, 5th Dan, and Sensei Mohammad Qahar Azadani, 4th Dan and Branch Chief of Kyokushin-kan Afghanistan.

All the training sessions and practices of these students were under the guidance of Sensei Mohammad Qahar Azadani. Fortunately, Hojatullah Semehzada could use his instructor techniques and strategies to become a medal winner in this world tournament, and for the other two to be among the top 8 of  their divisions.

This history making milestone is the highest achievement for Afghanistan Kyokushin Karate by far in the world. Congratulations to all Afghanistan.
